Adult Graphic Novels

In our last update we explained in part how we intend to change the way we create adult graphic novels from here on. This post is to drill down into that in more depth to better explain what we are doing and why.

Creation before Funding

The first big change we are enacting in 2026 is to create the book before seeking funding for it on Kickstarter. For the last 4-5 years we have always gone to Kickstarter with some basic ideas, then based on the funding received created the book. This has led to a couple of problems arising that seem to bother backers.

  1. They cannot see much about the book during the campaign

  2. The book & rewards take 4-6 months to be completed and sent to backers

By changing this process we increase our risk. BUT it solves both of these problems, the book is finished before the campaign (but not manufactured) so we can post pages from the book and better show what the book is about as well as directly show the art style of the book and the NSFW content level too.

Then the campaign is mainly about funding the manufacturing and covering our already incurred costs. The book also has a set size so backers know exactly what they are getting and finally production can go into affect immediately after the campaign ends so backers get their rewards in 2-4 weeks instead of 4-6 months.

Adjusted Page Count

The next big change is the page count of our books going forwards, after a lot of consideration we have decided to make our new books all about 80 pages in size. This keeps our risk from the up front development costs at a reasonable level and still gives backers a full story and not a single issue. So whilst it is less pages than some of our past books it is still a very good amount to tell a story with, each of these will be classed as volumes.

So we will create an 80 page book before the Kickstarter campaign, showcase parts of it on the campaign (first pages and some censored adult scenes) and be able to begin production as soon as the campaign ends. This reduced size also gives us the benefit of being cheaper to print.

Eighty pages may seem like a big change from some of our past books, and it is, but from our most recent books it is only a tiny downsize. Cosplay Cuties only gained funding to make the book a little over 100 pages in size. And due to its potential page count and as the work still needed to be done, the price for the physical books was high, which no doubt prevented some from backing the campaign and kept the funding level so low.

New Formats, New Prices

Speaking of prices… For all future campaigns we have decided to redesign the book formats we offer and based on the new page counts and the new formats the costs of these different levels will be altered as well, to make them significantly cheaper, depending on your chosen tiers. Our new tiers for each book campaign will be as follows:

  • £10 - Digital PDF Edition

  • £30 - Softcover Comic Edition

  • £60 - Hardback Book Edition

  • £100 - Collectors Edition

  • £175 - All Three Editions

These will be the new reward tiers for each campaign with all past books and bonus content be it digital or physical available as add-ons rather than as increased reward tiers, all to give the campaign a clearer look as to what you will receive. In terms of formatting change the sizes of the different editions will also change.

Softcover books will be changed to A5 in size, with a slightly thinner paper quality to make it closer to a typical manga style book (but larger than manga). Meanwhile Hardback books will be a size called pinched crown qaurtro, which is a midway point between A5 and A4. The hardbacks will be a slightly more robust version and slightly larger hence the increased price.

Finally the Collectors Editions, these will remain the same size as our previous collectors edition books, practically A4 sized books. They also include the full double sided dustjacket and may also include additional pages that don’t fit in the regular editions. These are included so that those who collect them can continue to support our books and keep building their collection.

Collectors Editions will remain exclusive to Kickstarter, Softcover Comic and Hardback Book editions will be available in future campaigns as add-ons. We also will not be doing Early Bird options any more, preferring to simply give all backers regardless of when they join the campaign the best possible price we can afford.

Past Books Out of Print

Our last big change for 2026 is that for the time being we have discontinued our past books. Our old stock was sold our and since then we have moved to a new office and we just cant really justify holding 11 different books, especially when each campaign only sells maybe 4-5 of these past books each time. So for now we are not restocking our past books and so they are currently out of print.

BUT our past books will be available again eventually. Assuming our new plan for future books is a success, we will eventually take all of our past books and combine them together into large compendiums. Each compendium being about 350 pages in size, or thereabouts combining 3 of our past books into one. Editing the stories slightly and even adjusting and adding some bonus artwork and adjustments to the comic pages themselves. All to make the compendiums an upgraded version.

So if our initial campaigns in 2026 are successful, you will eventually see a dedicated campaign for a new compendium. We are planning to make three in total, once for each set of books. The only exception to this are for the books: Fatal Femmes and Grim Angelis. At present they will not be combined into a compendium, instead if we think there is demand for it we will eventually create the final chapter in that story before offering the compendium including the past two books and the final ending. This will likely not be until 2027 at the earliest though, once we have established our new format and created the first three of our past book compendiums.

Conclusion

We believe that this new way of doing things will help increase sales which hopefully will make up for the significantly lower margins we have on our reward tiers. This is a risk but if it works we could see increased sales on our new books, the set size and formatting changes also keep our risk low, whilst still higher than before this new method should allow us to experiment with new ideas, we have plans in 2026 for a horror stories, gender bending stories, sci fi stories and more. And the campaigns will make it clear what stories people like so that the successful ones can be continued with new stories and continuations. All in all we are very happy with our plans for 2026 and we hope you will continue to support us as we move into this new era for our books.
